Virgin Australia expands ANA codeshare to boost Japan access

Members of Virgin Australia’s Velocity Frequent Flyer program can now earn and redeem points across the ANA All Nippon Airways network under an expanded partnership between the two carriers.

Effective this week, the boosted tie-up also allows Velocity status credits to be earned on ANA flights not just between Australia and Japan but also on ANA’s wider network across Asia, North America and Europe.

Virgin customers can book flights beyond Tokyo to ANA’s domestic Japanese network, unlocking easier access to cities such as Sapporo, Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Osaka-Itami, Kochi, Osaka-Kansai, Kumamoto, Nagoya, Nagasaki, Oita, Okinawa and Miyazaki.

Velocity Silver, Gold and Platinum tiered frequent flyers will earn bonus points on ANA flights under a Virgin Australia flight number, with a 50% bonus paid to Silver members, 75% for Gold and double points for Platinum frequent flyers.

The announcement builds on Virgin Australia’s recent launch of flights on its own metal to Japan, with daily flights now in operation between Cairns and Tokyo Haneda.

Velocity CEO Nick Rohrlach said he was excited to expand Virgin Australia’s partnership with All Nippon Airways, creating more value and choice for members.

“From today, our 11.5 million members can earn Points and Status Credits on flights to more than 130 additional destinations through ANA’s global network across Japan, Asia, North America and Europe,” Rohrlach said.

“Following the commencement of our inaugural Cairns to Tokyo (Haneda) service last month, it is fantastic to be opening up more opportunities for our guests and members when travelling to, and within, Japan, with the nation’s largest airline.”
